The Three Lions Search for FIFA 2026 Training Facilities Amid Fears of Missing Out On First-Choice Location to Holland.

The FA has dispatched operational staff to the America this week to inspect potential facilities for the forthcoming global finals, amid growing apprehensions that their first-choice site could be taken by the Netherlands.

Draw Complexities Alter Arrangements

Manager Thomas Tuchel had previously approved an FA strategy for England to locate in Kansas after a pre-tournament training camp in Fort Lauderdale. But, after the recent tournament draw, there are now concerns that the Netherlands, who have their group games in Kansas, will be given first refusal on the chosen facility at Sporting Kansas City—a state-of-the-art centre used by US Soccer.

The world governing body allocates training camps based on geography and world rankings if there is competition, with the draw possibly pitting the FA in competition with the Netherlands and Argentina for bases in the tournament's south-central region.

Exploring Alternative Locations

With England's group stage matches scheduled to take place in Dallas, Boston, and New Jersey, the FA is now reportedly investigating other options on the east coast. The association started its search for training bases at the beginning of the year, with Tuchel and director of football John McDermott visiting potential locations during the Club World Cup last summer.

In spite of this advanced preparation, there was always an understanding that the final tournament draw could significantly alter their logistical arrangements.

Later Round Logistics Strategy

The Three Lions have the eighth most arduous group stage schedule in terms of travel. Topping Group L would put England on course for a last-32 game in Atlanta, followed by possible last-16 match in Mexico City.

  • Significant Departure: The FA may opt to choose to move between venues for the later rounds if England progress, a major departure from its usual protocol of having a fixed tournament base.
  • FIFA Recommendation: FIFA is believed to be recommending such a flexible approach for the expansive 2026 tournament.

Once the training base is confirmed, the FA will turn its attention to organizing two warm-up matches in Florida at the beginning of June.
