Novak Djokovic Delivers Warning to Jannik Sinner: Doping Ban Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month doping suspension will persist over his career like a "cloud" – while also questioning the timing of the sanction in the previous season.
Details of the Suspension
Sinner completed a three-month prohibition in early 2025 after the global anti-doping body accepted his explanation that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in a discussion on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.
"It's just something that, it was so significant, and when that happens, with time it may lessen, but I don't think it will disappear. There will inevitably exist a specific segment of individuals that will always try to bring that forward."
Djokovic's Perspective
The Serbian player stated that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "had no intentional involvement", but he then scrutinized how the Italian managed to complete his ban without sitting out any major tournaments.
"There is the lack of transparency, the inconsistency, the convenient timing of the suspension occurring between major events, so he doesn't miss out the others – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.
Wider Player Reactions
"I am dissatisfied with how the case was being handled and it was evident numerous fellow athletes, across both tours, who had some similar situations voicing their concerns publicly and complaining that it was a preferable treatment."
