Hodgkinson Wraps Up Campaign with Winning Performance at Athlos Meet in NYC
The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in London.
Keely Hodgkinson concluded her two-lap season with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the World Championships recently, dominated an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to award the victors with their crowns.
Last year's winners received $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
