E-commerce platforms such as these four major platforms are presently facing scrutiny in France for the allegation of allowing underage individuals to view pornographic content on their platforms, the Paris prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

The country's consumer watchdog had reported the retailers to the judicial system on this past Sunday after raising concerns about the sale of minor-looking sex dolls on Shein's platform in recent days.

The investigative authorities explained that the websites are being examined over harmful, pornographic or unacceptable messages that can be viewed by underage users.

One of the platforms stated that it considers the situation extremely earnestly. Shein, Temu and Wish have also been contacted for comment.

Broader Probes and Company Reactions

Shein and AliExpress are additionally under investigation over the distribution of information involving youngsters that are of a pornographic nature, the agency mentioned.

The issues have been handed over to a specialized police unit, the prosecution service noted. This unit is an section of the law enforcement that oversees the welfare of young people.

The company commented that the listings in question contravened its guidelines and were deleted once it became aware of them.

"Vendors determined to violate or trying to bypass these policies will be penalised in line with our regulations," AliExpress declared in a release.

On Monday, the retailer confirmed it had banned the marketing of any sex dolls on its marketplace worldwide. The based in Singapore firm also said that it would permanently block all vendor profiles related to the illegal sale of the childlike items and implement more rigorous safeguards on its service.

Agency Observations and Broader Background

The French consumer watchdog, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, had stated that the sex dolls' description and categorisation left "minimal uncertainty as to the exploitative character" of the products.

The examination of Shein coincides with the company, which was founded in the People's Republic of China, prepares for the opening on this Wednesday of its first long-term brick-and-mortar shop in France.

Activists have been seen collected in near the Paris department store where the company is scheduled to establish the location.

The firm aims to open shops in other French retail chains in urban centers like these regional hubs.
