Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have found plenty of engaging creations from small studios. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure lets you play a character that is literally a turd striving to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is simple: press a single jump button. Across 150 levels, battle tough enemies and visit a shop to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.
Execute your jumps with caution, as a error forces restarting the level. Bounce on bubbles to propel yourself upward, navigate fragile platforms, and interact with buttons to unlock hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS for buying challenging stages in which things ramps up.
Visually, the demo shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing soundtrack. The retro visual style with shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of players of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's hard to think of previous releases where you are a piece of feces, gaming have long featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content shows up heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, like taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available now on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on Steam in the fall.
